Embezzlement and theft have struck at the heart of the Pueblo of San Ildefonso in Española, New Mexico. Thomas McIntosh, a 33-year-old former employee, has pleaded guilty to two serious charges.
According to the plea agreement, McIntosh worked at the Totavi Station on the San Ildefonso Pueblo, where he was responsible for administering New Mexico State Lottery sales. However, McIntosh had other plans. Between March 19 and April 4, he intentionally and unlawfully accessed lottery tickets to determine the winning tickets, purchased them, and attempted to claim the winnings for himself.
The defendant’s actions did not stop there. McIntosh also admitted to intentionally altering business records and continuing to embezzle winnings from cash registers and the New Mexico State Lottery.
McIntosh’s crimes have left the community in shock. The Pueblo of San Ildefonso, a trusted institution, has been compromised by the actions of one of its former employees.
As a result of his plea agreement, McIntosh faces up to one year in prison. He will also have to pay restitution, a mandatory fine, and serve a period of probation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Flores is prosecuting the case. The Albuquerque office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) investigated this serious crime.
The people of Española and the Pueblo of San Ildefonso demand justice for the victims of McIntosh’s embezzlement and theft. The community hopes that this guilty plea will bring closure and serve as a warning to others who would seek to exploit the trust placed in them.
In a statement, McIntosh’s crimes serve as a reminder of the importance of accountability and transparency in all institutions, especially those entrusted with public funds.
