Florida Man Charged with Civil Disorder in DC
A Florida man has been charged with civil disorder and misdemeanor offenses in connection with the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Thomas Paul Osborne, 40, of Lakeland, Florida, is accused of disrupting a joint session of Congress.
The indictment alleges that Osborne entered and remained in a restricted building or grounds, engaged in disorderly and disruptive conduct, and committed disorderly conduct in a Capitol building or grounds.
Osborne was arrested on February 22, 2024, by the FBI in Lakeland and made his initial appearance in the Middle District of Florida.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section are prosecuting the case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida provided valuable assistance.
The FBI’s Tampa and Washington Field Offices are investigating the case, with the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department also providing valuable assistance.
Since January 6, 2021, over 1,313 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including over 469 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
Osborne’s case is a reminder that the investigation into the January 6 breach remains ongoing.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
