Thompson Sentenced to 35 Years for Child Pornography

Grand Bay, AL – Bryan Thompson, 44, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for producing and distributing child pornography, announced United States Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama.

Thompson pled guilty to the charges in December 2020. According to court documents, in November 2015, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department in New Mexico and the FBI were investigating an online child exploitation case, which identified a person in Alabama trading child pornography online.

A search warrant was executed at Thompson’s residence on November 12, 2015, and he was interviewed, admitting to joining chat groups and receiving child pornography images and videos. Agents seized numerous electronic devices, which contained 971 images and 214 videos of child exploitation material.

A forensic analysis revealed images that appeared to show Thompson performing sex acts on a pre-pubescent minor. He admitted to having inappropriate contact with a minor, who was then about six years old, and documented the abuse electronically.

Thompson was interviewed again in January 2018, and a forensic analyst completed analysis on all the devices seized from him. The analysis confirmed that there were approximately ten images created that showed Thompson’s sexual abuse of the minor.

United States District Court Chief Judge Kristi DuBose imposed a sentence of 35 years imprisonment, ordering Thompson to undergo mental health treatment while incarcerated and to be supervised by federal probation officers for the rest of his life after finishing his prison term. He is to have no contact with minors and will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison. Thompson was also ordered to pay $10,200 in special assessments.
