A 69-year-old Virginia Beach woman, Jeannie Harris Blassingham, pleaded guilty to making graphic threats of violence toward a federal elected official. From May 21, 2025, to May 23, 2025, Blassingham left a series of voicemail messages threatening physical violence against the official and their staff, stating that the official could expect to be confronted by people who think they need to die right now.
The messages, laced with profanity, were investigated by the U.S. Capitol Police. Blassingham’s guilty plea was entered in a federal district court, where she faces up to six years in prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for October 15.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Clayton D. LaForge. The U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors will be considered by the judge in determining Blassingham’s sentence.
