Three Hattiesburg Men Sentenced for Methamphetamine Trafficking
Three men have been sentenced for their roles in a major methamphetamine trafficking ring in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, according to court documents.
The three defendants, Shane Ware, Alfred Richards, and Demetric Evans, were found guilty of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, a federal crime. The investigation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, uncovered a large-scale operation involving the distribution of high-purity methamphetamine in the Hattiesburg area.
Shane Ware was recorded distributing approximately 221 grams of 100% pure methamphetamine on January 29, 2020. He pleaded guilty on November 24, 2020, and was subsequently sentenced to 70 months confinement, a $5000 fine, and five years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Taylor B. McNeel on April 14, 2021.
Alfred Richards was also recorded distributing approximately 121 grams of 99% pure methamphetamine on February 12, 2020. He pleaded guilty on November 24, 2020, and was sentenced to 120 months confinement, a $5000 fine, and five years of supervised release by Senior U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett on April 8, 2021.
Demetric Evans was recorded distributing approximately 112 grams of 97% pure methamphetamine on February 19, 2020. He pleaded guilty on November 24, 2020, and was sentenced to 120 months confinement, a $7500 fine, and five years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Taylor B. McNeel on March 31, 2021.
This case is part of Project EJECT, a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to fighting and reducing violent crime through prosecution, prevention, re-entry, and awareness. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi is leading the initiative under the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and Project Guardian.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case, and Assistant United States Attorney Andrew W. Eichner prosecuted the defendants. The convictions and sentences of Ware, Richards, and Evans serve as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in methamphetamine trafficking and the commitment of law enforcement to keeping our communities safe.
