Three Men Sentenced for Armed Robberies
Three Cleveland men, Stephone D. Tillman, 25, Matthew S. Bowen, Jr., 25, and Christopher R. Jones, 26, were sentenced to prison for more than a decade for committing armed robberies in Solon, Bath and North Olmsted. The men were found guilty of multiple counts of interfering with interstate commerce by means of robbery and brandishing firearms during a crime of violence. Tillman was also found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Tillman was sentenced to 20 years in prison, while Bowen received nearly 13 years and Jones got nearly 11 years. The men committed the robberies in 2015, targeting convenience stores in Solon, North Olmsted and Bath.
The robberies took place at the Circle K store in Solon on September 15, 2015, at the Zip Thru drive-through store in North Olmsted on October 3, 2015, and at another Circle K store in Bath on October 8, 2015. Each of the robberies involved the use of a firearm, according to court documents.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in conjunction with the Solon, North Olmsted, and Bath Police Departments. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kevin R. Filiatraut and Kelly L. Galvin.
“These men deserve to be locked up for a long time after using loaded guns to rob hard-working people,” said Carole S. Rendon, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. “There is no place in our society for those who use firearms for illegal purposes.”
Trevor Velinor, Special Agent in Charge of ATF’s Columbus Field Division, added that the cooperative efforts between law enforcement agencies are a positive example of the impact that can be made when working together to bring violent criminals to justice.
The men’s sentences are a reminder that using firearms for illegal purposes will not be tolerated and that those who commit such crimes will face severe consequences.
Carole S. Rendon and Trevor Velinor praised the efforts of the ATF and the Solon, North Olmsted, and Bath Police Departments for their work in bringing the men to justice.
