Tiffany Key, Counterfeit Money Passing, New York 2015

Four defendants have been charged with passing counterfeit money in New York. According to a complaint, Tiffany Key, 42, and her co-defendants were identified by video surveillance and photographs from various merchants who were victimized by the counterfeit money.

The complaint states that the counterfeit money was obtained from the New York City area and brought to the Rochester area to be distributed and passed. The defendants are accused of passing a total of $92,960 in counterfeit currency.

The investigation, led by the United States Secret Service, began on February 9, 2015, after multiple passes of counterfeit currency were reported in Monroe County, NY. The defendants are accused of passing counterfeit money at various locations throughout the area, including Walmart stores in Cicero, Webster, Greece, Irondequoit, Seneca Falls, and Henrietta.

Tiffany Key, along with Shamell McCullough, 24, and Turemail McCullough, 23, both of Rochester, made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson and were released on conditions. Turemail McCullough is set to appear before Judge Payson this afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

A fourth defendant, Dashawn Sanders, is still being sought by police. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Field.
