Twenty-Year Sentence for Sex Trafficking of a Minor

In a shocking case of human exploitation, Timoteo Reyes-Perez, a 35-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking of a minor in Florida.

Reyes-Perez was found guilty of violating Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1591(a)(1) and (b)(2), after he met and married his 14-year-old victim in Mexico and subsequently smuggled her into the United States.

According to court documents, Reyes-Perez transported his victim to multiple locations, including New York, Atlanta, and the Southern District of Florida, where she was forced into prostitution at brothels. The victim was subjected to physical and sexual violence, and was required to have sex with up to 30 men per night.

At sentencing, the victim spoke out about the lasting emotional and psychological damage she suffered at the hands of Reyes-Perez. She described how he used physical and sexual violence to ensure her compliance, and how she was forced to live in fear of him.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia S. Choe, with the support of ICE-HSI’s investigative efforts. Reyes-Perez’s sentencing is a significant victory in the fight against human trafficking, and serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of this crime.
