Defendant Arrested for Possessing Child Pornography
A shocking revelation has come to light in the case of Jorge Guerrero-Torres, a 28-year-old Orlando man, who has been arrested and charged with possessing child pornography.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Guerrero-Torres was taken into custody after a thorough investigation, which led to the discovery of multiple images of child pornography on his cellphone. The device was recovered by law enforcement and a forensic examination revealed the disturbing contents.
Guerrero-Torres was arrested on May 29, 2016, and subsequently made his initial appearance in federal court on June 6, 2016. He was denied bail and remains detained pending further proceedings. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 20, 2016, at 1:30 p.m., before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mac R. McCoy.
The investigation into Guerrero-Torres’ activities was led by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney Jesus M. Casas will be prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
Jorge Guerrero-Torres, if convicted, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. A criminal complaint is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
