Latrobe Man Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison for Distributing Child Pornography
In a shocking case of child exploitation, a 22-year-old Latrobe man has been sentenced to 140 months’ imprisonment, followed by 20 years supervised release, on a charge of distribution of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to information presented to the court, Timothy David Piper knowingly distributed images containing material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor on or about January 29, 2016. Specifically, Piper groomed and sexually assaulted a minor male child, admitted to taking sexually explicit images and videos of the child using his cellular phone, and shared the images and videos over the Internet.
Assistant United States Attorney Jessica Lieber Smolar prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Greensburg Police Department for conducting the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Piper. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. The initiative aims to protect children from the horrors of child exploitation and abuse.
Timothy David Piper, 22, of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, was sentenced by United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak.
The exact criminal charges against Piper include distribution of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor. The crime occurred in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
