Timothy Lee King, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Florida 2024

Timothy Lee King, a 33-year-old from Groveland, has been arrested on a federal firearm charge. According to the United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg, King has been indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a charge that could land him up to 15 years in federal prison.

King’s troubled past is marked by 11 prior felony convictions, including fleeing and eluding law enforcement, burglary, and two prior convictions for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On January 16, 2024, King was found to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition, a clear violation of federal law given his prior convictions.

The indictment against King is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Leesburg Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk, who will seek to prove that King knowingly and willfully possessed a firearm and ammunition despite being prohibited from doing so under federal law.

An indictment is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a federal criminal offense. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty. However, given King’s extensive history of felony convictions, it is clear that he poses a significant threat to public safety and must be held accountable for his actions.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in our communities. Launched on May 26, 2021, PSN brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. By targeting individuals like King, who have demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law, PSN hopes to prevent further violence and protect innocent lives.

The arrest of Timothy Lee King serves as a reminder that federal law enforcement agencies are committed to holding convicted felons accountable for their actions. By enforcing federal firearm laws and prosecuting those who violate them, we can reduce the threat of gun violence and create safer, more secure communities for all. As the case against King moves forward, it will be important to monitor its progress and ensure that justice is served.

In the meantime, the community can take comfort in knowing that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to protect them from individuals like King. By supporting initiatives like Project Safe Neighborhoods and cooperating with law enforcement efforts, we can all play a role in creating a safer, more just society. The case against Timothy Lee King is a stark reminder of the importance of this work and the need for continued vigilance in the face of violent crime.
