Tobias Ovonuel Goodbear, 28, Pleads Guilty to Felony Assault
In a shocking turn of events, Tobias Ovonuel Goodbear, a 28-year-old resident of Ada, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to one count of Assault of Intimate Partner and Dating Partner by Strangling in Indian Country.
The crime, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, allegedly occurred on July 29, 2024, in Pontotoc County, within the boundaries of the Chickasaw Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The investigation into the crime was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Ada Police Department.
According to court documents, Goodbear’s guilty plea was accepted by the Honorable Gerald L. Jackson, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report is now underway, and a U.S. District Court Judge will ultimately determine the sentence to be imposed after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Goodbear will remain in the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Gross represented the United States.
