Former Ascension Parish Deputy Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography Charges
Todd Eric Tripp, a 35-year-old former deputy of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, has pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography in Louisiana. The crime dates back to March 2020 and continued until October 2020, when Tripp used a multimedia instant messaging application to obtain the explicit images.
According to admissions made during his plea, Tripp received at least 15 images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. This disturbing crime has left many questioning the safety and supervision of law enforcement officials in the community.
Tripp’s guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr., who emphasized the severity of the crime and the consequences that Tripp will face. As a result of his conviction, Tripp faces a significant term of imprisonment, a fine, and a period of supervised release, which includes sex offender registration requirements.
The investigation into Tripp’s activities was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the York County, South Carolina Sheriff’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Edward H. Warner and Criminal Chief Jamie A. Flowers Jr.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
