Todd Sweet, 51, Sentenced to 100 Months for Crimes

A Monroe County man has been locked up behind bars for a pair of serious crimes. Todd O. Sweet, 51, was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon and a stolen motor vehicle.

The crimes began when Sweet was living in a tent in the woods of Monroe County. He had absconded from supervised release following his conviction in the Eastern District of Missouri for Possession of Body Armor by a Violent Felon.

The landowner discovered Sweet trespassing on his property and called the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies found a GPS device in Sweet’s backpack that led them to his tent location, where they discovered a stolen firearm. A nearby stolen truck was also found.

Sweet was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He pleaded guilty to both charges.

The case was investigated by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ali Summers and Stephen Clark.

Sweet was sentenced to 100 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.

Donald S. Boyce, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced the sentencing.

The crime occurred in Monroe County, Illinois. The sentencing took place on an unspecified date in 2024.
