Togo National Sentenced for Resisting Deportation/p/p/Alexandria, La. – Aboudou Waka, a 34-year-old man from Kpalime, Togo, was sentenced to six months in prison for refusing to leave the country after being ordered to depart twice./p/p/On March 13, 2017, and April 11, 2017, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents attempted to remove Waka via an escorted commercial flight from the Alexandria International Airport. However, the defendant hampered deportation efforts by verbally and physically resisting attempts to escort him onto the plane./p/p/The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney T. Forrest Phillips prosecuted the case./p/p/Waka was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dee D. Drell on two counts of failure to depart./p/p/The evidence admitted at a two-day trial showed that Waka refused to leave the country on two occasions./p/p/The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of resisting deportation orders./p/p/Waka will serve his six-month sentence at a federal prison./p/p/>
