Baltimore, Maryland – A Jessup, Maryland man pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Tommie Miller, age 36, was taken into custody after a search warrant was executed at his apartment on March 2, 2021. Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation discovered a pistol loaded with 34 rounds of ammunition, an AR-style pistol with an obliterated serial number, and other firearms and ammunition.
According to his guilty plea, Miller admitted that the drugs, the manner in which they were packaged, the presence of drug paraphernalia, and the amount of cash indicate his intent to distribute the drugs and that the firearms were possessed in furtherance of the drug trafficking crime.
Miller faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of life in prison for possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. U.S. District Judge Stephanie A. Gallagher has scheduled sentencing for July 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
This case is also part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach.
United States Attorney Erek L. Barron commended the FBI and the Howard County Police Department for their work in the investigation. Mr. Barron thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim Y. Oldham, who is prosecuting the case.
