A brazen Baltimore fentanyl dealer is facing the music after a federal sting operation snared over 400 grams of the deadly opioid. Jeremy Bethea, 46, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, cocaine, and crack cocaine.
Between August 2022 and October 2023, Bethea and his co-conspirators peddled their wares to customers in the Baltimore area, using multiple cellphones to coordinate sales. Undercover investigators made 15 controlled purchases from Bethea, including a particularly heinous sale of over 40 grams of fentanyl in January 2023.
But it was a wiretap investigation that finally caught up to Bethea, intercepting calls between him and his co-conspirators discussing and coordinating sales. On April 17, 2023, BPD officers stopped a vehicle en route to a planned drug transaction, seizing the evidence that would seal Bethea’s fate.
Bethea’s guilty plea marks a major victory for law enforcement in the ongoing fight against Baltimore’s fentanyl epidemic. ‘This case is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of fentanyl on our communities,’ said Kelly O. Hayes, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland.
