Bergen County Man Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery in New Jersey
A Bergen County man has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to robbing a bank in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. Tony Winst, 46, of Cresskill, New Jersey, entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Edward S. Kiel in Camden federal court to an information charging him with bank robbery.
According to court documents, on November 17, 2023, Winst entered a bank in Mountain Lakes and handed a note to a teller claiming it was a robbery. He stated that he had a weapon and the teller gave him money before he fled the scene.
The bank robbery charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, along with a maximum fine of $250,000. Winst’s sentencing is scheduled for April 2, 2025.
U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger credited the special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Nelson I. Delgado in Newark, along with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, with the investigation leading to Winst’s guilty plea.
The Mountain Lakes Police Department, under the direction of Chief of Police Shawn Bennett, was also thanked for their assistance in the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Nadel of the General Crimes Unit in Newark represented the government in the case.
