Anthony Lee Hunter, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Kansas 2023

TOPEKA, KAN. – Anthony Lee Hunter, 51, of Topeka, Kansas, is headed to federal prison for more than seven years after admitting to flooding the streets with methamphetamine and heroin. Hunter received a 94-month sentence today, a direct result of a search that revealed a significant stash at his northeast Topeka residence.

Federal prosecutors say investigators raided Hunter’s home in the 700 block of northeast Emmett Street and discovered over 30 grams of methamphetamine and more than 11 grams of heroin. This wasn’t a small-time operation. The quantity seized points to a dedicated dealer, not a user.

Hunter confessed to making a substantial drug run to Kansas City earlier that week, dropping over $30,000 on the illicit goods. The methamphetamine and heroin seized during the raid, he admitted, represented his entire remaining stock. A clear indication he was moving product quickly.

The case, spearheaded by the FBI and the Lawrence Police Department, illustrates the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Kansas. The flow of narcotics from larger cities like Kansas City continues to poison smaller communities, and law enforcement is working overtime to cut off the supply.

U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister announced the sentencing, highlighting the collaborative effort that brought Hunter to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Maag was instrumental in securing the conviction and lengthy sentence. This is a clear message: dealing death carries severe consequences.

Hunter pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. While the charge focuses on meth, the presence of heroin further underscores the scope of his criminal enterprise. He’ll have ample time to reflect on his choices behind bars. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this and other federal cases as they unfold.
