Torrence Donnell Mayfield, 51, a former Jackson Police Department officer, has been indicted for selling a firearm to a convicted felon in Mississippi.
According to court documents, Mayfield sold a firearm to a person he knew to be a convicted felon. This is a federal crime, as it is against the law to sell a firearm to a known convicted felon.
The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in Jackson, with U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge Jermicha Fomby of the Federal Bureau of Investigation announcing the charges.
Mayfield appeared in court today before U.S. Magistrate Judge F. Keith Ball, who scheduled the case for trial on May 30, 2023, in U.S. District Court in Jackson. If convicted, Mayfield faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
