Birmingham Man Pleads Guilty to Illegal Gun Possession
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A convicted felon pleaded guilty to being in possession of a firearm, a crime that put innocent lives at risk.
Traddarryl Rishad Boykins, 32, of Birmingham, admitted to being a felon in possession of a firearm in a plea agreement before U.S. District Judge L. Scott Coogler.
The incident occurred on January 29, 2024, when a Homewood Police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Boykins. However, Boykins led the officers on a high-speed chase from Homewood to downtown Birmingham.
The pursuit ended when Boykins crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of 18th Street North and 15th Avenue North. The driver and passenger of the vehicle suffered multiple injuries and were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Boykins was arrested and a search of the vehicle revealed a loaded Glock 23 pistol in the driver’s floorboard. His prior felony convictions prohibit him from possessing a firearm.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Homewood Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney William R. McComb is prosecuting the case.
A sentence for Boykins has not been announced yet. The consequences of his actions could send a strong message to those who disregard the law and put innocent lives at risk.
