Kenneth Franklin Hill, Jr., Methamphetamine, Heroin, Cocaine Distribution, North Carolina 2021

A North Carolina man has been handed a 292-month sentence for his role in distributing methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine in Pamlico County. Kenneth Franklin Hill, Jr., 47, of Oriental, North Carolina, pled guilty to the charges on February 24, 2021.

According to court documents, Hill’s prosecution was the result of an investigation led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in conjunction with local, state, and federal authorities. The investigation targeted several drug traffickers operating in Pamlico and Craven counties.

Hill’s arrest on December 9, 2019, followed several controlled purchases of methamphetamine from him by authorities. During the arrest, Hill led Pamlico County Sheriff’s Deputies on a high-speed chase, ramming patrol cars and running a school bus full of children off the road. Fortunately, no serious injuries occurred when Deputies fired shots at Hill’s vehicle, disabling it.

The investigation attributed over 2,000 grams of cocaine, 1,000 grams of methamphetamine, and 1,200 grams of heroin to Hill. These drugs were distributed into the community from 2016 until his arrest in 2019. In a statement, U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III noted that a 292-month sentence sends a message to the citizens of Pamlico County that decades of planting seeds of poison in a community will end in a significant and detrimental harvest.

The sentencing was announced by G. Norman Acker, III, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and the District Attorney’s Office for the Prosecutorial District 4 assisted with the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney J.D. Koesters prosecuted the case.

The court documents and information related to the case can be found on the website of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina or on PACER by searching for Case No. 4:20-CR-85-D.

This case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of drug trafficking on communities and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
