Baltimore, MD – On April 24, 2023, U.S. District Judge George L. Russell, III, sentenced Travis Alewine, also known as “Sticks,” to 253 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release for conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise.
Alewine, 30, of Baltimore, Maryland, was a member of the Hillside gang, which operated in the Cherry Hill neighborhood of Baltimore. The gang distributed powder and crack cocaine, heroin, oxycodone, and marijuana, using the proceeds to purchase firearms and enrich themselves.
As part of his guilty plea, Alewine admitted to participating in a murder, along with three other members of the Hillside gang. They discharged a .45-caliber firearm, shooting and killing Anthony Cureton, whom they mistakenly believed was a member of a rival gang.
Alewine also possessed firearms, including a loaded .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol and a loaded .44-caliber revolver. He was involved in the preparation of narcotics for sale and possessed them with the intent to distribute.
All 21 defendants charged in this case have pleaded guilty to their roles in the conspiracy. Alewine and co-defendant Deaven Cherry fled after their indictment and were fugitives until their arrests in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
Alewine’s sentence brings an end to the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. PSN focuses on the most violent offenders and partners with prevention and reentry programs for lasting solutions.
Travis Alewine, a/k/a “Sticks,” is currently serving a sentence of 253 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. He was charged with conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise in connection with his membership in the Hillside gang.
