Armed Bank Robbery Rocks Spring Grove
A 47-year-old man from Marietta, Pennsylvania, is behind bars after allegedly robbing an M&T Bank in Spring Grove earlier this year.
Travis Jerome Jones, of Marietta, is accused of taking approximately $3,587 from the bank on January 19, 2017, and brandishing a Hi-Point 9mm handgun during the heist.
A federal grand jury indicted Jones on May 3, 2017, on charges of armed bank robbery, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and felon in possession of a firearm.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Southwestern Regional Police Department in York County, and the Investigation Division of the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlo D. Marchioli is prosecuting the case, which was brought as part of the Violent Crime Reduction Partnership (VCRP), a district-wide initiative to combat the spread of violent crime in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
According to United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Jones is scheduled to appear before United States Magistrate Judge Martin C. Carlson on May 9, 2017, for arraignment.
Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.
The maximum penalty under federal law is 25 years of imprisonment for the bank robbery, a lifetime term of imprisonment for the firearms offenses, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
