Lincoln Man Gets 10 Years for Meth Conspiracy
A Lincoln man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the city. Travis John Haas, 37, was found guilty of conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine between April 17, 2015, and November 12, 2015.
The investigation, led by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Drug Task Force, revealed that Haas was responsible for the distribution of at least 500 grams, or approximately 18 ounces, of methamphetamine during that time.
According to the investigation, in August 2015, Haas was contacted by Lincoln Police officers and found in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine. On November 12, 2015, cleaning staff at a Lincoln motel found approximately ¾ ounce of methamphetamine in a make-up bag left behind in a room after Haas and a companion checked out.
Haas was contacted by Lincoln Police officers in the motel parking lot after he returned to the motel in an effort to retrieve the methamphetamine. At that time, Haas told officers that he had been selling large quantities of methamphetamine for six to seven months.
U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced the sentencing, stating that Haas will serve 10 years in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
The investigation and sentencing are a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in Lincoln, and a reminder of the consequences of involvement in such activities.
Haas’s sentencing serves as a warning to others involved in the distribution of illicit substances, and highlights the commitment of law enforcement to keeping communities safe.
