Travis Lee Williams, 34, of Mobile, Alabama, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, Sean T. Costello.
Williams was arrested in December 2022 after he was found carrying a gun in a mall in Savannah, Georgia. At the time, he was also on probation for a prior felony conviction. As a result, he is now facing additional penalties for violating his probation.
Williams’ case is a prime example of the dangers of gun violence and the importance of keeping firearms out of the hands of those who should not possess them. As a previously convicted felon, Williams has proven himself to be a repeat offender.
U.S. Attorney Costello praised the work of the Mobile Police Department in bringing Williams to justice. ‘This case highlights the importance of our partnership with local law enforcement to keep our communities safe,’ said Costello. ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to prosecute those who choose to disregard the law and put others at risk.’

Williams’ sentencing comes as part of a larger effort by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat gun violence and hold accountable those who would seek to harm others with firearms. The case serves as a reminder that the consequences of committing gun-related crimes can be severe and long-lasting.
According to the Department of Justice, in 2022, there were over 10,000 instances of gun violence in the United States, resulting in the loss of countless lives and countless more injured. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama is committed to doing its part in reducing this number and keeping our communities safe.
