Travis Paul Lindsey, Assault in Indian Country, Oklahoma 2014

A 24-year-old man from Hugo, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 39 months in prison for a violent assault that took place in Indian Country.

Travis Paul Lindsey was found guilty of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to do Bodily Harm in Indian Country, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 113(a)(3), 1151 and 1152.

The charges against Lindsey arose from an investigation by the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which began on October 4, 2014. The victim, identified only as T.B., an Indian, was struck with a dangerous weapon during the assault.

Lindsey pleaded guilty to the charges in November 2014, but his sentencing was delayed until now. The Honorable Ronald A. White, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing.

As part of his sentence, Lindsey was also ordered to pay $16,087.20 in restitution. He will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending transportation to the designated federal prison at which he will serve his non-parolable sentence.

Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris represented the United States in the case. The investigation and prosecution of Lindsey’s crimes were a collaborative effort between local and federal law enforcement agencies, demonstrating their commitment to keeping Indian Country safe from violent crime.

The sentence imposed on Lindsey serves as a reminder that violent crime will not be tolerated in Indian Country. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators of violent crime to justice and to protect the communities they serve.
