Tredell Long Crow Sentenced for Larceny and Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm in South Dakota

Pierre, South Dakota – In a shocking turn of events, 27-year-old Tredell Long Crow of Ideal, South Dakota, was sentenced to five years in federal prison for Larceny and Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.

According to court documents, on July 15, 2023, Long Crow stole a vehicle from a residence in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which he drove to a residence in Ideal, on property that is part of the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation.

In the early morning hours of July 16, 2023, Long Crow was involved in an argument with two individuals in Ideal, during which he brandished and discharged a firearm. This incident occurred just months after Long Crow was convicted of Possession of a Controlled Drug or Substance in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, in 2022.

As a result of this conviction, it is illegal for Long Crow to possess firearms or ammunition. Despite this, he continued to break the law, putting himself and others in harm’s way.

Long Crow was indicted by a federal grand jury in September of 2023 and pleaded guilty on February 1, 2024. He was sentenced on April 24, 2024, and will serve five years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

In addition to his prison sentence, Long Crow was ordered to pay $200 in special assessments to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and $1,786.66 in restitution. He was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in our communities. The case was investigated by the Sioux Falls Police Department, the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, the Tripp County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson prosecuting the case.
