Tribal Cop Slain in Line of Duty
ALBUQUERQUE – A senseless act of violence has shaken the Navajo Nation to its core as Houston Largo, a Police Officer with the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety, was fatally shot while serving and protecting his community.
Largo was commissioned as a Special Federal Officer by the BIA’s Office of Justice Services and was dedicated to safeguarding and protecting his tribal community. His tragic loss is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers that law enforcement officers face every day in the line of duty.
Officer Houston Largo leaves behind an enduring legacy that will live on in the lives he touched through the work that the BIA, the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety and all tribal police officers continue to perform. His loss is a tragic reminder that the work of our law enforcement officers is profoundly heroic and deserving of our most emphatic support.
“Officer Houston Largo was a dedicated law enforcement officer and a courageous public servant. Officer Largo leaves behind an enduring legacy that will live on in the lives he touched through the work that the BIA, the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety and all tribal police officers continue to perform to safeguard and protect our tribal communities,” said Acting U.S. Attorney James D. Tierney.
“His loss is a tragic reminder that the work of our law enforcement officers is profoundly heroic and deserving of our most emphatic support. The thoughts and prayers of the law enforcement community are with Officer Largo’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” Tierney added.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has vowed to honor Largo’s service and sacrifice by continuing to fight for the values he protected every day, and to protect the tribal communities for whom he gave his life.
As the investigation into Largo’s death continues, the community comes together to mourn the loss of a true hero. Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Largo’s family, loved ones, and the entire Navajo Nation during this difficult time.
