Trinitarios Gang Leader Gets Life for Killing Informant
NEW YORK, NY – William Jones, a/k/a ‘Principe,’ a high-ranking member of the notorious Trinitarios gang, has been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of a confidential informant in Suffolk County, New York.
Jones, 45, of the Bronx, lured Frederick Delacruz, a Bronx resident, to a cemetery in Suffolk County on December 28, 2019, where he shot and killed him in cold blood. Delacruz was acting as a confidential informant for law enforcement at the time of his murder.
This is not Jones’ first conviction for murder. In 1994, he was convicted of intentionally murdering 23-year-old Audrey Walker in the lobby of a Manhattan apartment building, and was sentenced to nine years to life in prison. He was released on parole in 2008.
Jones was found guilty of racketeering conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, and murder through the use of a firearm after an eight-day trial in October 2023. His sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos.
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams praised the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York City Police Department, and the Suffolk County Police Department, stating, ‘William Jones executed Frederick Delacruz in cold blood because Delacruz had the courage to cooperate with law enforcement. Now, Jones will spend the rest of his life in a federal prison.’
The prosecution team, led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Emily A. Johnson, Justin V. Rodriguez, and Christy Slavik, worked closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York City Police Department, and the Suffolk County Police Department to bring Jones to justice.
With this sentence, Jones will spend the rest of his life behind bars for his heinous crime. The Trinitarios gang has long been known for its involvement in violent crimes, and this sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of such actions.
The case is being handled by the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit, with the assistance of Paralegal Specialist Grayson Glogoff.
