ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A Mescalero man is behind bars, accused of a horrific crime that has left a family shaken. Troy Douglas Blaylock, Sr., 57, of Mescalero, New Mexico, and an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, was charged in federal court on Sept. 22 with aggravated sexual abuse of a child and sexual abuse of a minor.
According to court documents, the alleged abuse took place in Blaylock’s residence within the external borders of the Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation. The victim, who is also an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe and was eight- and nine-years old during the time of the abuse, was repeatedly sexually abused by Blaylock from late 2019 until Aug. 2020.
The FBI investigated this case with assistance from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa A. Ong is prosecuting the case.
A criminal complaint alleges that Blaylock repeatedly sexually abused a minor victim. The alleged abuse took place in the defendant’s residence within the external borders of the Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation.
If convicted, Blaylock faces up to 15 years in prison for sexual abuse of a minor and a minimum of 30 years and up to life in prison for aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
A criminal complaint is only an allegation. A defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
