Troy Edwards, 26, Brings Shame to East St. Louis with Cocaine Distribution Guilty Plea
Troy Edwards, the 26-year-old East St. Louis, Illinois resident, has made a name for himself in the wrong circles. On April 16, 2015, Edwards pled guilty in federal district court in East St. Louis to one count of Distribution of Cocaine. This guilty plea is a clear message to the community that Edwards’ actions will not be tolerated.
According to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, the evidence presented in court showed that Edwards sold approximately three ounces of cocaine and one ounce of heroin on January 25, 2013, to a confidential informant, acting at the direction of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents, in East St. Louis, Illinois.
The DEA conducted the investigation, and Assistant United States Attorney Daniel T. Kapsak is handling the prosecution. Edwards’ sentencing is scheduled for July 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $1,000,000, not more than 3 years of supervised release after his prison term, and a mandatory special assessment of $100.
The people of East St. Louis deserve to live in a community free from the scourge of cocaine and heroin. The guilty plea of Troy Edwards is a step in the right direction towards a safer and more just community.
