BOSTON, MA – In a devastating case of fentanyl-related overdose death, Troy Jones, 45, a resident of Wareham, Massachusetts, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term. Jones was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in death and distributing fentanyl resulting in death.

On April 2, 2019, a 42-year-old Wareham resident died of a fentanyl overdose after purchasing the substance from Jones and his co-conspirator, Kayla Nightingale. Jones and Nightingale were indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2020 for their involvement in distributing fentanyl in Wareham between January 2019 and April 3, 2019.

Jones pleaded guilty to the charges in August 2024, and on December 7, 2024, he was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper to 92 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. In addition to the prison term, Jones was ordered to pay $7,868 in restitution to the family of the victim for funeral expenses.

The U.S. Attorney’s office, led by U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy, announced the sentencing along with other law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Massachusetts State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Dolan prosecuted the case.
