New Orleans Man Sentenced for Federal Gun Control and Federal Controlled Substances Acts Violations

A 34-year-old New Orleans man has been sentenced to prison time for violating federal gun control and federal controlled substances acts. Troy Locke was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment on January 15, 2024, by United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter.

According to court records, Locke made several controlled purchases of crack cocaine and firearms from an undercover ATF agent in July and August 2023. During one of the purchases, Locke had a gun in his lap, and during another, he sold an AR-style rifle for $1,000 to the agent. After these controlled purchases, the ATF executed a search warrant at Locke’s residence and found him in possession of two more firearms, including an assault rifle with an extended magazine.

Locke had several prior felony convictions that prohibited him from possessing firearms. In total, Locke sold the agents over 120 grams of crack cocaine and illegally possessed three different firearms.

Judge Vitter sentenced Locke to 120 months imprisonment, ordering that he serve 60 months on each of Counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9, to run concurrently, and another 60 months on Count 5, to run consecutively. Judge Vitter also imposed a 5-year term of supervised release and ordered that Locke pay a $900 mandatory special assessment fee.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in neighborhoods. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with United States Attorney David Haller handling the prosecution.

Troy Locke, a resident of New Orleans, was found guilty of nine different counts related to federal drug and firearms violations. Locke’s prior felony convictions prohibited him from possessing firearms, but he was found in possession of three different firearms, including an assault rifle with an extended magazine.

Locke’s sentence includes 120 months imprisonment, with 60 months to run concurrently on eight counts and 60 months to run consecutively on one count. Locke is also required to serve a 5-year term of supervised release and pay a $900 mandatory special assessment fee.
