TUCSON, Ariz. – In a brutal crackdown on organized crime, Jose Fernando McCormick, 52, of Tucson, was handed a decade behind bars for his role in the methamphetamine trade. The sentence, imposed by United States District Court Judge Scott H. Rash, includes 120 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
McCormick’s downfall began on October 3, 2024, when he attempted to deliver nearly 8 kilograms of meth at a local gas station. His plan was thwarted as law enforcement gave chase, leading to a dramatic pursuit and a crash. Despite his efforts to evade capture, McCormick was found hiding in a residential shed shortly after.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, a multi-agency approach that targets the highest-level criminal organizations threatening the United States. The DEA led the investigation into McCormick’s activities, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Culver handled the prosecution for the District of Arizona.
McCormick’s conviction under Case Number CR 24-07595-TUC-SHR (LCK) and Release Number 2025-107_McCormick marks a significant victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.
