JIMMY DON MCCOY, JR., a 25-year-old from Tulsa, Oklahoma, is headed to federal prison for 13 months after pleading guilty to stealing firearms from a federally licensed dealer. The conviction, under Title 18, United States Code, Sections 924(m) and 2, marks the end of a years-long fallout from a brazen heist that violated federal gun laws and endangered public safety.
According to court documents, on or about August 29, 2015, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, MCCOY broke into Gems Gun & Pawn, a licensed firearms dealer, and stole multiple weapons—each of which had moved in interstate commerce before or after the theft. The crime triggered an immediate federal response, transforming a local burglary into a serious federal offense with stiff consequences.
The investigation was led by the Sallisaw Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, whose joint efforts uncovered evidence linking MCCOY directly to the break-in and the stolen arsenal. Federal prosecutors wasted no time building the case, underscoring the zero-tolerance policy for tampering with regulated firearms distribution.
At sentencing, U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided in Muskogee, handing down the 13-month term with no possibility of parole. The court emphasized the seriousness of stealing weapons from a federally regulated business, calling it a direct threat to community safety and federal oversight.
MCCOY will remain in the custody of the United States Marshals Service until he is transferred to a designated federal correctional facility. His time behind bars begins now, with no early release options under the nonparoleable sentence handed down by the court.
