Robert Chebon Johnson, Armed Robbery, Oklahoma 2017

Tulsa, OK – In a brazen daylight robbery, 46-year-old Robert Chebon Johnson and an accomplice donned masks and used a hammer to break into Cash America Pawn at 11th and Memorial on May 31, 2017. The duo made off with a haul of jewelry, laptop computers, and various firearms, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

But their getaway was short-lived. A brave citizen, tired of seeing the community plagued by such violent crimes, chased after the pair, firing a shot into the air. Johnson, caught off guard, stopped running until the police arrived to take him into custody.

On Thursday, Chief District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell handed down a 46-month prison sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, to Johnson for his role in the robbery. Johnson was also ordered to pay $15,991.00 in restitution.

United States Attorney Shores emphasized the importance of reducing violent crimes in the community, stating, "Robberies routinely are violent offenses that threaten the lives of employees and customers. My office is focused on reducing violent crimes and we will continue to work with law enforcement to improve the safety of our community by aggressively prosecuting these cases."

The investigation into the robbery was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Tulsa Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Dennis A. Fries handled the prosecution of the case.

Johnson’s sentence serves as a reminder that violent crimes will not be tolerated in our community. The people of Tulsa deserve to feel safe, and it is the duty of law enforcement and the justice system to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

As the community continues to grapple with the issue of violent crime, it is clear that there is still much work to be done. However, with the tireless efforts of law enforcement and the justice system, there is hope for a safer, more just future for all.
