Turkish Enforcer Ece Alptunaer Busted in NY Bust
A brazen opioid trafficking operation led by 38-year-old Turkish national Ece Alptunaer has been dismantled by federal authorities in New York, according to a recent court filing. Alptunaer, who faces charges related to the distribution of over $10 million worth of illicit substances, is accused of running a sophisticated network that supplied dealers across the Northeast.
Prosecutors allege that Alptunaer used the dark web to facilitate transactions and launder money, making her one of the most wanted figures in the NYC underworld. Her alleged accomplices have been charged with conspiracy, distribution, and money laundering. The feds claim they seized over $1.5 million in cash and multiple properties linked to Alptunaer’s operation.
According to court documents, Alptunaer’s operation spanned several cities, including New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. Her crew allegedly sold fentanyl-laced pills, heroin, and cocaine to local dealers, who then distributed the product to consumers. The investigation, led by the DEA, uncovered a complex web of transactions and bank accounts linked to Alptunaer’s operation.
Alptunaer’s defense team, led by attorneys Clay Hubbard Kaminsky and Justin Horton, has yet to comment on the charges. The Turkish national is currently being held without bail in a Manhattan detention center. The case has sparked concerns about the growing presence of foreign crime groups in the US.
As the opioid epidemic continues to ravage communities nationwide, law enforcement officials are cracking down on traffickers like Alptunaer. In a statement, the DEA said, ‘We’re committed to disrupting the supply chain and holding accountable those responsible for fueling this deadly crisis.’
Alptunaer’s case is now pending in the District Court for the Southern District of New York (1:23-cr-00188). If convicted, she faces up to life in prison for the charges levied against her.
