WASHINGTON, D.C. – Cold blood in the District. Antoine Turner, 32, of Washington, D.C., admitted today to the execution of Demeitri Anderson in a shocking daytime shooting outside the Benco Shopping Center in Southeast D.C. on November 29, 2020. The plea, announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, brings a measure of closure to a case that gripped the neighborhood and highlighted the city’s ongoing struggle with gun violence.
According to court documents, Turner drove a rented red Nissan Versa to the 4500 block of B Street SE, meticulously circling the block before stalking his victim. He then ambushed Demeitri Anderson, firing repeatedly into the man’s back and head in front of Ken’s Beauty Supply at 4528 Benning Rd SE. The brazen attack occurred around 12:38 p.m., in broad daylight, turning a routine afternoon into a scene of terror.
A quick-thinking officer parked nearby heard the gunshots and witnessed the carnage. The officer observed Turner fleeing the scene, an orange hood pulled low over his head, a handgun still clutched in his hand. As Turner ran directly toward the officer’s cruiser, he tossed the weapon to the street before jumping into the Nissan Versa and speeding away. The officer immediately initiated pursuit, leading to Turner’s arrest on December 3, 2020.
The proffer of facts revealed a calculated act. Turner didn’t just stumble upon Anderson; he actively sought him out, parking his vehicle strategically and maneuvering through the alleyways to reach his target. The details paint a picture of premeditation, a cold and deliberate act of violence that extinguished a life. The agreed-upon sentence, pending court approval, is 20 to 26 years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release – a significant penalty, but one that barely scratches the surface of the pain inflicted on Anderson’s family and community.
Turner has remained in custody since his arrest, awaiting the outcome of the investigation and legal proceedings. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), led by Chief Pamela Smith, conducted the investigation, meticulously gathering evidence and building a case against Turner. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Coronado prosecuted the case, ensuring that justice, however delayed, would be served. This conviction sends a message – albeit a late one – that such acts of violence will not be tolerated in the nation’s capital.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 7, 2025. While a conviction is secured, the scars of this senseless act will linger long after Turner is behind bars. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing struggle against violence in Washington, D.C.
