A 27-year-old Turtle Creek woman has been sentenced to four years’ probation in connection with a heroin trafficking conspiracy, according to federal authorities.
Shyanne Johnson was convicted of attempted distribution of heroin in federal court, with United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announcing the sentence on Wednesday.
According to information presented to the court, Johnson was part of a DEA wiretap investigation that revealed she traveled to Mechanicsburg in June 2016 to meet with a heroin supplier and attempt to bring nearly 400 bricks of heroin back to Pittsburgh for distribution by members of the conspiracy.
United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer imposed the sentence on Johnson, stating that it was sufficient but not greater than necessary to achieve the goals of sentencing.
Assistant United States Attorney Tonya Sulia Goodman prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the investigation funded by the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF).
The OCDETF program supplies critical federal funding and coordination that allows federal and state agencies to work together to successfully identify, investigate, and prosecute major interstate and international drug trafficking organizations and other criminal enterprises.
United States Attorney Brady commended the Drug Enforcement Administration, Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, and Pennsylvania State Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Johnson.
