Two men from Mexico were sentenced by a federal court in Wyoming for re-entering the US illegally.
Jose Esteban Ramirez-Hernandez, 38, of Mexico, was sentenced to time served plus 10 days for illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien into the United States. He was arrested in Gillette, Wyoming.
Rene Mendez-Mendez, 37, of Mexico, was also sentenced to time served plus 10 days for the same crime. He was arrested in Jackson, Wyoming.
Both men were ordered to pay a $100.00 special assessment and are subject to deportation upon release from custody. The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The sentencing of the two men comes as a stark reminder of the ongoing issue of immigration and border control in the US.
The cases of Ramirez-Hernandez and Mendez-Mendez will likely raise questions about the effectiveness of current immigration policies and the need for stricter border control measures.
As the US continues to grapple with the complexities of immigration, it is clear that more needs to be done to protect its borders and its citizens.
