In a brazen scheme to rip off the US Treasury, two Florida tax preparers were sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their role in a stolen identity tax refund fraud.
Geto Dorlizier, 35, of Boynton Beach, and Jourmel Thomas, 48, of Lake Worth, operated separate tax preparation businesses in Delray Beach and Lake Worth, respectively. The pair submitted 706 federal income tax returns that were either unauthorized or contained significant falsehoods, netting them over $1.6 million in illicit refunds.
The brothers, who operated Atlantic Multi-Services, LLC (Atlantic Multi-Services) and JTS Paperworks and Tax Services, respectively, were sentenced on counts of conspiracy, receipt and retention of government property, and aggravated identity theft.
Dorlizier received a 111-month prison sentence, to be followed by three years of supervised release, while Thomas was handed a 61-month prison term, also followed by three years of supervised release.
The investigation was led by the FBI and IRS-CI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Osborne handling the prosecution.
Wifredo A. Ferrer, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, commended the investigative efforts, saying, ‘The brazen scheme concocted by these two tax preparers has been brought to justice.’
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of tax preparation accountability and the devastating consequences of those who seek to exploit the system for personal gain.
