Tyler Konigsmark, Enticement of Minors, Iowa 2024

A Cedar Rapids man has pleaded guilty to enticement of minors, a serious crime that has left the community shaken.

Tyler Konigsmark, age 20, of Cedar Rapids, was convicted of one count of enticement of minors. At the plea hearing and in a plea agreement, Konigsmark admitted that, between April and May of this year, he used Snapchat and his iPhone to request sexually explicit images from three girls, age 12, 13, and 14, who rode on school buses where he was an attendant.

Konigsmark also admitted that, on two occasions, he had sexual intercourse with the 12-year-old girl after he used Snapchat and his cell phone to arrange meetings with her.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Konigsmark faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, $5,100 in special assessments, and supervised release for 5 years to life following any imprisonment.

Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Konigsmark remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and is being investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Hiawatha Police Department, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
