A Monongahela man has been found guilty of conspiring to possess cocaine. Tyler Mucci, 33, was tried before Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Shaun E. Sweeney, who prosecuted the case, the evidence presented at trial established that Mucci conspired with other individuals to possess with the intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine in the Mon Valley area from March 2017 through December 2017.
The evidence at trial showed that Mucci was one of the lower level participants in the conspiracy. Judge Hornak has not yet set a date for sentencing.
The law provides for a total sentence of 30 years in prison, a fine of $2,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based on the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Pending sentencing, the court continued the defendant’s release on bond. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Tyler Mucci.
The charges against Mucci include conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine, a crime punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,000,000.
The case is a significant victory for law enforcement and a reminder of the importance of addressing the scourge of drug trafficking in our communities.
