Hassan Griffin, 25, a/k/a ‘Glizzy,’ ‘Frizzy,’ ‘ODOG,’ and ‘GlizzytheHitta,’ Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison

PHILADELPHIA – In a major blow to the Kensington neighborhood’s drug trade, Hassan Griffin, a/k/a ‘Glizzy,’ ‘Frizzy,’ ‘ODOG,’ and ‘GlizzytheHitta,’ was sentenced to 12 years in prison, 10 years supervised release and a $2,000 special assessment by United States District Judge Mitchell S. Goldberg for conspiracy to distribute and distribution of phencyclidine (‘PCP’) and cocaine base (‘crack’)

Griffin, a leader of the notorious TruHittaz drug trafficking group, was one of nine individuals charged by indictment in April 2018 with numerous counts of drug trafficking offenses. The group operated in the 700 and 800 blocks of East Madison and East Willard Streets in Philadelphia, controlling the open-air market and selling drugs 24/7.

According to court documents, the TruHittaz obtained quantities of PCP, cocaine base, heroin, marijuana, and other controlled substances from suppliers, both outside and within the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. They then sold these drugs through a network of bosses, caseworkers, trappers, and lookouts, allowing them to sell at least five ounces of PCP and 10 bundles of crack every 12 hours.

Griffin’s sentencing brings to a close a more than five-year effort by federal and local law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle the TruHittaz DTG. The group’s operations were marked by violence, intimidation, and threats, and they operated in direct proximity to several area schools, including Philip Sheridan School, People for People Charter School, Woodrow Wilson Middle School, Russell H. Conwell Middle School, and Resurrection Regional Catholic School.

The nine defendants were sentenced to a total of 73 years in prison, with sentences ranging from 6 to 15 years. The group’s activities were marked by a complete disregard for the safety of the community, with witnesses recounting the smell of PCP in the air and littered bottles and caps used to package and sell the drug.

The TruHittaz DTG made large sums of money by selling drugs and carrying and using firearms. Their main stash house, located next to an operating daycare center, was seized by law enforcement, revealing over a kilogram of PCP, hundreds of vials and other packaging paraphernalia, and numerous rounds of ammunition.

The sentencing of Griffin and the other defendants is a significant victory for law enforcement and the community. It demonstrates the commitment of federal and local agencies to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations and bring those responsible to justice.
