MIAMI, FL – A 22-year-old Miami man allegedly linked to the Bloods and 77 Street gangs is facing federal charges after a raid uncovered a frightening arsenal, including two handguns illegally modified to function as fully automatic machine guns. Ty’ree Dixon was taken into custody May 17th following an investigation into gang-related violence and fraud, according to court documents.
The bust began when law enforcement approached Dixon. He was allegedly found carrying a Glock 20 and a 10mm semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine. A subsequent search of his residence revealed a stockpile of firearms: three Glock semi-automatic pistols, a Century Arms International AK-style pistol, and the two converted machine guns. These weren’t just modifications; authorities say “switches” – also known as auto-sears – were installed, allowing the weapons to fire multiple rounds with a single trigger pull.
Federal prosecutors swiftly charged Dixon with being a felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. Magistrate Judge John J. O’Sullivan deemed him a flight risk and ordered him held without bond pending trial. On June 1st, a South Florida grand jury upped the ante, indicting Dixon on two counts of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and two counts of illegally possessing a machine gun. He’s now looking at up to 40 years in federal prison if convicted.
The investigation was a collaborative effort by a multi-agency task force comprising the U.S. Secret Service (USSS), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), and City of Miami Police Department (MPD). The USSS Miami Field Office, led by Special Agent in Charge Brian Swain, played a key role, alongside FBI SAC George L. Piro and ATF SAC Robert Cekada. Acting U.S. Attorney Juan Antonio Gonzalez announced the charges.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal program aimed at reducing violent crime through coordinated law enforcement efforts. The program, recently revitalized, emphasizes partnerships between federal, state, and local agencies to tackle violent criminals. Authorities are urging anyone with information about gun crimes to contact Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
Dixon is scheduled for arraignment in federal magistrate court in Miami on June 16th. It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is not a finding of guilt; Dixon is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Court documents related to case number 21-cr-20325 can be found on the District Court for the Southern District of Florida website: www.flsd.uscourts.gov or http://pacer.flsd.uscourts.gov. AUSA Frederic “Fritz” Shadley is prosecuting the case.
