Tyrik Scott, Attempted Robbery of an ATM, Louisiana 2021

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – In a brazen attempt to break into an ATM, 21-year-old Tyrik Scott and his accomplices used sledgehammers, crowbars, chains, and a truck to try and crack open the machine. Their plan was foiled on February 5, 2020, when they tried to break into an ATM located in the drive-through of a Capital One Bank. Just prior to this robbery attempt, Scott and his accomplices were observed in the same truck attempting to break into an ATM at Hancock Whitney Bank.

According to court records, Scott and his accomplices were armed with an arsenal of tools, including sledgehammers, crowbars, and chains, in their attempt to break into the ATM. Their plan was to use the truck to ram the ATM and then use the tools to break it open. However, their plan was foiled when they were caught by authorities.

On September 21, 2021, Scott was sentenced to time served, 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment. He was also ordered to pay $39,324 in restitution. The court records show that Scott’s accomplices were also involved in the attempted robbery, but their identities were not released.

The investigation into the attempted robbery was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the FBI and NOPD in investigating this matter. The prosecution of this case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney G. Dall Kammer, Chief of the General Crimes Unit.

The attempted robbery of the ATM was a brazen and violent crime that put the lives of innocent people at risk. The fact that Scott and his accomplices were able to get as far as they did is a testament to the level of planning and coordination that went into the crime.

Scott’s sentence is a reminder that the consequences of committing a violent crime are severe. He will now have to serve time in prison and pay restitution to the victims of the attempted robbery. This is a warning to others who may be considering committing similar crimes.

The attempted robbery of the ATM is a reminder of the importance of community policing and the need for citizens to report suspicious activity to the authorities. If you have any information about this crime or any other crime, please contact the FBI or NOPD.
