BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – Tyrone Gomes, a 31-year-old Hyannis man, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court in Boston for his role in trafficking heroin and suboxone on Cape Cod.
According to court documents, Gomes was involved with Denzel Chisholm and the notorious “Nauti-Block” gang in distributing large quantities of heroin and suboxone on Cape Cod. The investigation, which was sparked by the September 2015 murder of Christine Ferreira at a rest stop on Route 6, led to the arrest of Gomes and Chisholm, as well as several other co-conspirators.
Gomes pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, and conspiracy to distribute suboxone. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to a lifetime in prison for the heroin charge, as well as a fine of up to $8 million.
As part of his plea agreement, Gomes will be sentenced on July 25, 2017. Chisholm’s arraignment is set for April 13, 2017. Both Gomes and Chisholm are also facing charges in Massachusetts state court related to the murder of Ferreira.
The investigation, which was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, resulted in the recovery of 12 grams of heroin from Gomes’ vehicle on March 6, 2016.
Gomes’ prior felony drug conviction from 2010 makes him eligible for a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to a lifetime in prison for the heroin charge.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric S. Rosen is prosecuting the case. The details contained in the indictment are allegations, and Gomes is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
