BUFFALO, N.Y. – A Buffalo man has been convicted of possessing a firearm and marijuana after a jury trial.

Tyrone Nance, 32, was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana following a jury trial in federal court.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.

The conviction stems from a search conducted by federal probation officers in November 2011 at Nance’s residence and car on Timon Avenue in Buffalo.

During the search, officers recovered a shotgun hidden under the hood of the defendant’s car and a quantity of marijuana from the freezer in the defendant’s residence.

DNA analysis performed by the Erie County Forensics Laboratory tied the shotgun to Nance.

The verdict is the culmination of an investigation on the part of the United States Probation Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Nance was on supervised release as a result of a 2009 conviction for conspiracy to distribute marijuana.

Sentencing is scheduled for November 4, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. before Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.

The defendant’s real full name is Tyrone Nance, and he was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana in Buffalo, New York.

The crime occurred in November 2011.

The sentence for Nance is a maximum of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.
