A 29-year-old Des Moines man has been convicted of possessing ammunition in connection with the April 2022 shooting death of a man.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Tyrone Scott Cameron shot and killed a man after a fight over a debt he owed.
Cameron left the apartment complex where the fight occurred and later returned with a gun, firing 15 rounds of ammunition through a closed apartment door, striking and killing a male victim. A second victim survived.
Cameron then fled the scene and was later identified as the shooter through surveillance video, witness statements, and cell site location records.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement.
The case was investigated by the Des Moines Police Department, with assistance at trial by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Assistant United States Attorneys Mikaela Shotwell and Kristin Herrera are prosecuting the case.
This case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
